Art Board Evaluation

In the end, I didn't really end up fully following my plan and original ideas.

I started with the magazine multicolored heart and then drew a real heart, going with my original theme of real and fake.

I decided to roughly paint it with red and once that had finished I developed it into three different artworks and that become my first row. I used the original magazine heart underneath and developed it, separating it and breaking it playing around with colour like the the above row. Next I took photos and brought back in the yellow tape from my artist model and brought in photography further developing the hearts.

Then I took physical copies of the magazine heart and crumpled them and photocopied them. the next board and top row I photographed physical versions of the heart and the second row is the same with other hearts.

the next two pieces strongly related back to my original theme and ideas with stereotypes and labels relating to girls and women. I actually went back to my plan here and used the portraits of a face for it and used magazine word cut outs. the words and text over photos was using Barbara Kruger as inspiration.

the next photos were dry brushed with paint and had bold words relating back to my original theme again.

the final piece included everything all the ideas and media's.

my mediums sort of changed and is like mixed media. I used collage, paint, drawing, photography.

in the end I didn't really follow my original plan and a few of my ideas/theme got lost or changed slightly during the process. I think overall the theme centers around the heart, emotions and insecurities. how different people cope and how some people lock away their feelings and heart because they are scared of being hurt and of judgement. broken hearts and pain also play a part. I think I ended up even developing my original theme and ideas into something more.

as above there's wet media in the bottom left two pieces on the second board and at the first row. there's drawing incorporated in the first pieces aswell and the last pieces.

this is the original heart

sketches of the heart before it got developed

this was the base of the tape over multiple pieces. it was drawn and then painted and done in different sizes for each piece.

these were the unused pieces. the crying eyes were in inspiration of my artist model Hannah who used glitter and stuff like this in her art photos. the heart with red writing was inspired by barbara Kruger.

Artist Models

Hannah Altman - Photography (inspiration not model)
(BEAUTY STANDARDS)
She used glitter and replaced body fluids or the natural things that
all women have and go through, and replaced it
with glitter because we are supposed to be sparkly and pretty in everything we do,
even stuff like this and it was to represent how unjust the beauty standards are, I really like this
concept

Barbara Kruger - Collages and Photos
(LABELS)

I like how she used photography and captions it, and it shows the standard or label of women or people in general and I like that. The black and white aspect is also something I like.

Annette Messenger - Photography and Multimedia
(EQUALITY AND FEMINISM)
I like her close up body parts idea and her overall ideas and concept of equality, comparing parts but at the same time representing humnaity I guess? I like her collage sort of ideas

Sherry Wolf - Photography
(Fashion and Contempary)
I really like how she incorperates fashion into the art and how they blend into the backround, the bright colours and techinques, its visually really pleasing

Rosalie Gascoigne

I liked examples of her work and used the yellow tape and bold black text to display warnings and cautions and words that would further create depth to my work.

What How Why - Art

my theme is: identity

reputation/labels/standards/perfection
body issues/self image

why:
i chose these ideas because they are all quite deep and personal things,
everyone is different and its interesting to think about and talk to other people about.
I find it all pretty intriguing and personally its about expressing
my ideas and views on all of these things, rather than raising awareness
and how i understand it. I can use ideas experiences and personal journey i guess as well.
I'm passionate about it because i love the deepness of it and how everyone
is affected in some way by it so it can be relatable as well. I'm sure that there is a lot of
information and different stories out there relating to the ideas and theme
which is helpful and good to look and reflect on.

two mediums:
drawing and photography

visual symbols:
- black & white vs colour
- hands
- eyes
- nail art
- makeup

idea:
natural body (natural hair, no makeup)
each image a close up on a body part or whatever like eye, hand, hair
each photo/body part represents a beauty standard like painted nails/makeup
end result being a stereotypical person or someone with all the 'beauty' standards with
marking or words or signs? girl being oblivious to it or knowing and preferring natural?
have a comparison with natural and beauty standards
drawing for one side/painting for other
black and white drawings but have the natural beauty pop through small colours
