PBL Group and Plan

Helping Senior Citizens

Our group is called Juanessaelaordan. Our group is Michaela, me, Juanita and Jordan. We decided to make our topic Senior Citizenship.

We asked Staywell Pharmacy, they said they could help us find elder people who live alone or would benefit from support or visits. We are going to visit Woodcote Retirement Village and will offer support or something.

We decided we are going to help the elderly because the elderly people in rest homes don’t have many friends or family visiting. They are sick and or dying. They might be lonely or bored. They might not get to go out or do things and will be sick of the same sight. Some old people might be left at home and living alone and don’t have the money to afford retirement home or health care that they need.

We will help by fundraising money towards helping them, giving them supplies, baking them food to put in the freezer, and just money to help. We will try to take them places or entertain them. I think even just visiting and talking to them would be cool because we can learn from them and they will just enjoy the company. We can also donate the money to them for medication if they can't afford it.

We will target the elderly people specifically in Hornby and the poor ones who can't afford to go into a retirement village. The ones that already stay in retirement villages we can still reach out to.

Hopefully, the end result is that we changed their life for the better or improved it a bit, even if we've just given them hope. They will be able to afford medicine and not have to strain themselves, they will have a good time and won’t have to sit there bored and lonely. It will overall be supporting the elderly people within our community. It could save someone’s life and they could be thankful for it, and their families also.

I called the retirement home and arranged a meeting with the manager, Liz Hampton. The meeting is at 10am on the 21-11-17. We signed forms and wrote letters for permission. Here is a picture of Michaela calling and the speech I said, but Michaela shoved the phone in my face so I said it, obviously with my own name.

I wrote out our plans, and Jordanlee, Juanita, and Michaela brainstormed.

I wrote out an action plan for our baking and the loose plans.

On Tuesday we signed out of school and walked to the retirement home. We had a short meeting with Liz Hampton. We were introduced to the elderly people at the tables. We sat down and talked to them for around an hour. We made another appointment for next week and made a plan for the next two weeks.

This is our group outside the Retirement Village.

The rest of the week we recorded down stuff and planned. I emailed Liz and got permission to bring baking. On the next Monday, me and Michaela walked to her house and baked chocolate chip muffins. Michaela later made no sugar banana muffins for the diabetic patients.

This Tuesday, Michaela brought the muffins with her to school. As a group we walked down to Woodcote once more. After a quick chat with Liz, we were once more introduced to the hall of elderly. We walked to each table and asked if they wanted a muffin or a sausage roll which was prepared by the retirement home kitchen staff. Most wanted a muffin and after we were pointed out the diabetic patients, we served each person and table. After serving, we walked back to school.

The next week we spent making  our presentation and christmas cards. Michaela and I walked back to the retirement home and gave them the cards and thanked them.

Then it was presentations and we were finished
